Minor Mogul is more than a website; it’s a movement! The mission is to demonstrate and share information on making movies independently — where creators wield sole creative and business control over their own work.

Movie-making is expensive — even micro-budget movie-making — and sources of funding are few. If you want to support Minor Mogul movies, you can donate money, equipment, or services — or simply help spread the word.

All donations will be received humbly and with thanks. And Minor Mogul will “pay it forward” by providing guidance, assistance, and support to other independent movie-makers, so your contribution will have a long-term effect.

Here are some of the things you can do . . .

Read Minor Mogul

The first and best way you can support Minor Mogul is to read the articles published on the website. The content of the site is, after all, what you are supporting.

You can help champion independent movie-making by replying to Minor Mogul items that you find interesting or useful. Heck, comment on ’em if you find them stupid and unhelpful, and say why; we all improve through thoughtful critiques.

Publicize Minor Mogul

Professional marketers know that the most valuable type of promotion is world-of-mouth. So recommend this site to your friends!

Here are a couple of specific things you might do to make people aware of this website and its mission:

• Share links to relevant Minor Mogul items online, on social media and discussion forums. If you see some newbie asking for information, comment in reply, “Here’s a list of resources that you might find useful,” and link to Minor Mogul’s reading list.
• Encourage people to sign up for Minor Mogul eNewsletter. The last week of every month, you’ll receive an email with updates about Minor Mogul projects, articles about independent and micro-budget movie-making, and lists of resources for movie-makers and movie-watchers. To sign up, email Editor@MinorMogul.ca.
• Buy or make some Minor Mogul stickers. You can decorate your phone, laptop, binder, car, house, or face and at the same time make other people aware of the Minor Mogul website. (Please don’t be a jerk and ruin other people’s property by posting unwelcome stickers.)

Minor Mogul also gratefully accepts donations of money, equipment, or services. If you have any spare cash, spare gear, or spare talents that you would like to place in a good home, consider Minor Mogul a worthy candidate.

Donate money

Money is always welcome. It’s so handy; it can be exchanged for whatever goods or services you need. Around here, money pays the website-hosting costs and funds production of Minor Mogul movies.

Most of us don’t have huge piles of unused cash sitting around; do remember that gifts of any size make a difference. You can even become a patron by donating monthly; just five bucks a month will give Minor Mogul $60 a year.

You can give money to Minor Mogul via Interac e-Transfer or PayPal. You can mail cheques or fat envelopes of cash to Minor Mogul’s postal address.

Donate equipment

You can help screenplays turn into movies by donating gear: cameras, tripods, lighting instruments, microphones, computers, cables, tools, hardware, and accessories of every kind are always welcome. The size of the gift is less important than the support it represents; you can donate a stinger (heavy-duty extension cord) or a passenger van (for ferrying around cast and crew). It’s an axiom of movie-making that you can never have too many C-stands!

Each movie has specific resources it needs — special gear, costumes, locations, props, etc. You can support specific movies by checking what they need on their specific pages under from the “Minor Mogul movies” option in the menu bar on every page.

Most of us don’t have spare cash or gear just lying around, but still like to support projects and causes we believe in. You can make a tangible contribution to Minor Mogul by donating your professional services. For example, if you’re an accountant you might donate a couple of hours of your professional time to help get the books in order.
